News and Updates District Convention February 23, 2008 Thank God for a successful District Convention! Although the crowd was small in number, the Spirit was great! We enjoyed spirit filled singing and preaching all day long. All of our district pastors had the opportunity to address the convention, either for testimony or in preaching the word. We were also blessed by visits and encouragement from several of our Regional Auxiliary secretaries. Also, our General Victory Leaders Band Director Sister Sharon Griffin was present and spoke briefly to the congregation. The afternoon session ended with a powerful and timely message from our Regional Overseer Brother Jernigan. He spoke of having liberty in the spirit. Thank God again for a wonderful day! Saturday February 23, 2008 We are pleased to announce that Winchester TCOG will be hosting The Church of God Eastern KY District Convention for the second consecutive year! We are expecting a great time in the LORD! This years theme is WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS, THERE IS LIBERTY. IN/KY/OH/ILL(S) Regional Overseer Bishop Paul Jernigan will be with us as special guest speaker. The convention will also feature messages by Brother Josh Graham, pastor at Elizabethtown, KY and Brother Terry Flora, pastor at Greenup, KY. In addition to the preached word, we will have special Auxiliary boosts by the regional Auxiliary secretaries, as well as a special word drom our General VLB (youth) Secretary Sister Sharon Griffin. Please pray for an exciting Convention. January 19, 2008 Happy New Year!! Thank God for a new year to spend working for Him! He has blessed us very recently with a new building to worship in. For various reasons the church had to leave our old location in down town Winchester. As it got closer to time to move out, we began to feel very discouraged and concerned because we could not find a place to move. We were prepared to have home services if necessary, but were hoping to see a miracle. God, as always, did not disappoint! Just a week before we were to move out, Brother Terry Flora was in the office of his insurance agent. The other half of the building was unoccupied, but he had inquired before, and the rent was $1000.00 per mont...way too much. He began to talk with her and told her of our situation. After a short conversation she asked what we had been paying in rent. He told her, and she said she would rather see the place in use than sitting empty. She said we could rent it for $475.00 per month! God put us in a much newer, nicer building in a better location for only $25.00 per month higher than before! Plus, the building is better insulated, with electric furnace rather than gas heat. It is easier to heat, plus it appears that we will save considerably on our heating bill! Thank God! We have already begun having service in the building and expect to hold District Convention there in February! We also have plans for a Revival with Brother Brian Odell in Marcyh. Praise God!! January 2, 2007 The Church of God at Winchester, KY is excited to enter into another new year! We are expecting great things from our Great God this new year. Please help us pray as we look for a new building to worship in. We must vacate our current location by January 15, 2007, less than two weeks away! We have yet to find another meeting place that is both suitable and affordable, so please help us pray for a victory. Sunday December 30, 2007 We were blessed to have Brother Matt Wright from Sturgis, KY as our guest speaker for Sunday night service. Bro Matt preached a great message and encouraged us to pray and grow closer to God. He was able to be with us as he was on his way to Greenup, KY for New Year's Watch Night service with Pastor Terry Flora and the fine folks in Northeastern KY. Praise God, and thenk you Brother Matt for joining with us and for being such a blessing. It is encouraging to see young people out working the fields for Christ! Saturday December 29, 2007 Funeral services for Evangelist Walter L. "Nick" Bird were held today at 11 AM at Manakee Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, KY. Brother Bird was born in Hardin County and lived there when he passed away on December 24, 2007 at the age of eighty-nine. Brother Bird served in the army during the 1940's and was an Evangelist for over forty years in Church of God of Prophecy and later The Church of God. During his ministry he held revivals in eight states in the Southeast, and was often the minister in great revivals that sometimes went as long as 4 - 6 weeks, with as many as forty people being saved, plus healings and other expenses. He was known to be willing to go when and where no one else was willing. One minister noted that "He was the only evengelist I ever knew that would go out of state to preach revival, pay his own way, and feed the pastor while he was there." Truly his reward is in Heaven.Brother Bird was also a close friend of mine for my entire life, and I was honored to be asked to minister in his funeral. I loved him dearly, and already miss him so...Brother Donnie Sunday December 24, 2007 We were blessed to be able to travel to Greenup, KY today to be with the church there for their first Christmas program and Christmas dinner at their new building. They put on a very nice program designed to bring our hearts back to a focus on Christ at Christmas time, rather than all the hype and commercialization that competes for our attention. Good job, folks! The dinner afterward was also a blessing as we all enjoyed food, fellowship, and fun...the Three F's!
